We’re thrilled to show you a sneak peek of our new collection, FORTH BY COLLEEN MAUER DESIGNS. Inspired by the four sides of a square, this collection celebrates angles and rounded edges. Look out for its official debut next month at NY NOW.

We’re frequently asked about our design process, and we’re happy to share it with you. (That’s a huge reason why we love our open-studio layout in The Showroom, where our customers can watch us at work with the metals). While our retail side is open Tuesday-Saturday, every Monday is a dedicated behind-the-scenes sketching day—even on days when creative inspiration is lacking. Those times are often when fresh ideas spring forth. Without a clear vision in mind, sitting down to sketch circles is unforced and lends itself to new thoughts. With uninterrupted time (that means all mobile devices flipped off) happening in regular, 2-3 hour bursts, the true magic can really happen.

Do you have a question on Colleen’s sketching process? Let us know in the comment below.

I have lots of my own ideas and sometimes (strong) opinions about things I’ve learned along the way. It’s always so interesting and thrilling to hear other people’s perspectives, too. [...]
