CMD on the Road: Next Up… The Phoenix in DC

CMD on the Road: Next Up… The Phoenix in DC

CMD on the Road:
Next Up… The Phoenix in DC

There’s something shifting over here at CMD — and if you’ve been following along, you’ve probably started to feel it.

After years (and honestly, hundreds) of markets, shows, and wholesale relationships, I’m moving into a new phase — one that’s more intentional, more personal, and much more rooted in direct connection.

And before I head to DC, there are a couple of chances to experience that shift a little closer to home:

Just Added!
Open Hours at The CMD Shop

Saturday, May 2nd | 11am – 4pm
Saturday, May 23rd | 11am – 4pm
The CMD Shop
305 Bond St, Suite 5, Asbury Park, NJ

No appointment needed — just come by, hang with me and let me show you my entire collection in real life. There’s nothing quite like seeing the work in person.

And then, this next stop is a dreamy spot to experience it all in a new setting:

The Phoenix x CMD — Ring Bar Pop-Up

Friday, May 8th + Saturday, May 9th
12pm – 6pm (Both Days)
The Phoenix
1514 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC

If you’ve been around CMD for a while, you already know how much I love The Phoenix. It’s one of those rare spaces that truly values craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and community — and it’s been a longtime partner of CMD in the best way. Plus they have been in business for 70 years, yes you read that correctly: 70. Makes our 20 year business feel like a young pup.

Coming back here each year feels familiar, grounding, and genuinely fun.

What I’m Bringing

I’ll have The Ring Bar with me — which means you can try on, mix, match, and build your own stack in person.

But beyond that, these events have become something more. They’re a chance to see and feel the work up close, a space to talk through ideas — whether that’s a future piece or reworking something you already own, as well as a moment to connect, catch up, and spend time together in a way that just doesn’t happen online.

If you’ve been curious about custom work or reconstruction projects, this is a great place to start the conversation.

A Shift in Direction

I want to share this clearly, because it’s shaping everything I’m doing right now: CMD is moving away from traditional wholesale.

We’ll always maintain relationships with a small number of longtime partners — like The Phoenixand Abode — spaces that have supported this brand in meaningful, aligned ways over the years.

But we’re no longer looking to grow through new wholesale accounts. Instead, the focus is shifting toward direct-to-consumer experiences, in-person connection, custom and reconstruction work, and designing more pieces that feel deeply personal and lasting.

This change has been building for a while, and it feels like the right next step.

Where I Want to Go Next

This is where I’d love your help, because it takes a CMD village!

I’m currently planning out pop-ups for the summer and beyond — but I’m not looking for the typical route. Not big markets. Not traditional retail expansion.

I’m looking for interesting, unexpected, aligned spaces and like-minded creatives. Places where people actually want to gather. Places that feel creative, intimate, and unique… just like us!

That could look like a ceramics studio (like Linda Fahey’s in San Francisco) or an interior design studio (like Lauren Nelson’s in San Anselmo.) I mean, it could be a wine bar or restaurant (FYI, I’m a big foodie), or a thoughtfully designed home or outdoor space. Maybe it’s a creative hub or shared workspace, or anywhere that fosters real connection.

I’ll bring the Ring Bar. I’ll bring the energy. And we’ll create something special around it.

If you have a space, an idea, or a connection — I’d truly love to hear from you!

Come See It In Person

If you’re in the DC area, I hope you’ll come by The Phoenix.

And if you’re closer to home, I’d love to see you at The CMD Shop in Asbury Park during Open Hours on Saturday, May 2nd or May 23rd (11am–4pm) — no appointment needed.

Whether you’re looking to build a stack, start thinking about a custom piece, or just stop in and say hi — these are the moments this next chapter is really about. I’d love to see you! Sam Gushner and I will be having some fun at The Phoenix, I can promise you that!

This next chapter of CMD is about getting out from behind the screen and back into real, shared spaces. Metal is my medium and connection is my craft. And, trust me… this is just the beginning. I can’t wait to see you or hear from you soon, my beautiful friends!

With faith in community,
Colleen

I wish more happily married women knew that redesigning their original wedding ring isn’t disloyal. Sometimes, it’s simply overdue! Cara and Cor have been married for well over twenty years. The kind of couple that instantly makes you smile. They are deeply connected, effortlessly funny, incredibly cool without [...]

The Colleen Pinky Stack started because people wouldn't stop asking me the same question: "What's that?" (pointing to my pinky set). Originally part of my own everyday stack, the design became such a customer favorite that we turned it into a permanent member of the CMD fam. And it's been one of our best [...]

From “I Never Wear This” to “I’ll Never Take It Off”

Since the beginning of this year, clients from coast to coast have been mailing, carrying and carefully placing deeply personal jewelry into my hands. Old engagement rings. Broken chains. Inherited heirlooms. Pieces tied to marriages, grandparents, milestones, grief, growth and entirely different [...]
