Designing LP Giobbi’s Wedding Bands

Designing LP Giobbi’s Wedding Bands

When a Muse Becomes a Bride: Designing LP Giobbi’s Wedding Bands

I was absolutely floored when LP Giobbi pulled me aside at the Fox Theatre to ask if I would design her and Chad’s wedding bands, I was absolutely floored. Floored in the “hold it together, Colleen” kind of way. My heart was completely bursting at the seams.

If you’ve been here a while, you know that LP and I first connected through music and mutual admiration. What began as a soul-recognition moment at Burning Man evolved into The Way Back Home Collection — a collaboration inspired by her tour, her music, and that electric armor energy she brings to the stage.

A Different Kind of Armor

While being hired for this project was a massive honor, it was also a design challenge, too! LP’s engagement ring is an ornate diamond daisy that belonged to Chad’s mom — a deeply sentimental heirloom. LP didn’t have a clear vision but knew wanted a ring to nest with the daisy. I took her hand and together we came up with the concept to have two wedding bands that would nest perfectly beneath it without overpowering it. LP is all about making a statement so adding these rings would instantly transform the ring into a very powerful set… and feel like an extension of her style.

I designed one curved band that would contour the base of her engagement ring, almost like a soft embrace. The shape mirrors the natural line of the daisy’s set setting so everything sits flush, intentional, balanced. We added a second gold band with diamonds that added to the bling factor.

For Chad, we echoed that same silhouette but his bands were two individuals that softly nested together. The two separate bands would nest together and be permanently soldered as one on the back face of the rings. Two forms, distinct, but bonded together as one. It’s a beautiful metaphor, too.

The Process: From Wax to Gold

After a few iterations and refining the design, we hand-carved wax molds in our Upstate New York production studio. Then I met LP and Chad in Brooklyn to try on the wax prototypes. We made minor adjustments to size and curvature. These kinds of tiny refinements are essential and they make all the difference in how a ring feels on your hand for the rest of your life.

From there, we cast the molds in solid 14k gold. LP’s shiny bands were adorned with diamonds — subtle sparkle with intentional placement. Chad’s ring mimicked her curves exactly, his two bands soldered together into one unified form with a silky matte finish.

I don’t take lightly the responsibility of crafting something that will live on someone’s hand for decades. These are heirlooms in the making. They hold vows, memories, and become part of a very precious moment in time.

Witnessing the Magic

I was honored to be invited as a guest on their big day in late January. Witnessing the exchange of rings at their wildly entertaining wedding in Isla Mujeres, Mexico was nothing short of surreal.

These two have the most magical connection rooted in being partnered for over 15 years. Their adoration radiates in the air around them. Watching it all come together — the ceremony, the dancing, the joy — truly left me glowing with delight.

As someone who finds deep meditation in music and movement, witnessing love sealed with rings I had the honor of designing felt like standing at the intersection of everything I care about: connection, creativity, rhythm, devotion.

The Evolution of CMD: A New Focus

Over the past year, something has been crystallizing for me. While stacking rings will always be our heartbeat, I feel deeply called toward custom and reconstruction work.

There is something profoundly meaningful about taking sentimental pieces or heirloom stones and transforming them into something that carries the past forward. I feel as though I have manifested this very meaningful work.

Whether it’s redesigning a grandmother’s diamonds (like LP did in her version of Not Your Grandma’s Diamond Ring from The Way Back Home Collection), recycling gold for credit and creating something new, or building a wedding stack from scratch — this is the direction CMD is heading and I’m thrilled to bring you along on this journey with us.

More custom. More reconstruction. More story!

The Way Back Home… and Forward

Our partnership collection with LP Giobbi was about confidence. It’s all about stepping onto the stage of your life fully armored in your own power. Designing her wedding bands felt like the next chapter of that story. This is the work that lights me up and it’s the music behind the metal!

If you’ve been dreaming about creating a custom piece for your wedding, redesigning heirloom materials, or building something that feels entirely your own — I would be honored to work with you.

Interested in learning more? Start by checking out my recent blog, Reconstruction & Recycling Magic at CMD: Everything You Need to Know Before We Begin. After reading, you can either fill out the Custom Project Inquiry form at the end of that post to officially get the wheels turning, or book a complimentary 15-minute consult if you’d like to explore feasibility, recyclability, or budget alignment first. There’s no pressure to a consultation — just a conversation. From there, we’ll decide together whether it’s time to begin!

May your feet always find the dance floor, and may your jewelry be an extension of YOUR story.

xo,
Colleen

I wish more happily married women knew that redesigning their original wedding ring isn’t disloyal. Sometimes, it’s simply overdue! Cara and Cor have been married for well over twenty years. The kind of couple that instantly makes you smile. They are deeply connected, effortlessly funny, incredibly cool without [...]

The Colleen Pinky Stack started because people wouldn't stop asking me the same question: "What's that?" (pointing to my pinky set). Originally part of my own everyday stack, the design became such a customer favorite that we turned it into a permanent member of the CMD fam. And it's been one of our best [...]
