The Story Behind the Colleen Power Stack

I've always loved building on a ring stack until it feels completely, unmistakably mine. Add something wider. Throw in a little diamond. Mix blackened silver with bright silver and gold. Change the proportions until the whole thing has enough weight and personality that people start asking, "What is THAT?"

That's exactly how the Colleen Power Stack came to be. One of my nicknames growing up was "Mauer Power," so when I put together a stack that felt like my heart and soul in jewelry form, the name practically chose itself. It was strong, graphic, mixed-metal and just masculine enough to balance the feminine parts of my style.

Building My Kind of Ring Stack

One of my favorite things about stacking rings is that the finished combination doesn't have to stay finished. You can start with a few pieces you love, change the order, add something wider, introduce another metal or pull one ring out completely. The same collection of rings can feel different depending on how you put them together.

The original Colleen Power Stack combined some of the geometric designs I was wearing constantly at the time, including the Channel and Diamond Square Ring, Line and Diamond Square Ring, thin and thick square stacking rings, and a 4mm solid gold square band with a diamond. It pulled together different widths, finishes and metals while still feeling cohesive.

Jewelry as a Little Bit of Armor

I've always thought of jewelry as more than decoration. The right stack can change the way you carry yourself. There are days when I want something delicate and days when I want enough metal on my hands to feel like armor.

The Colleen Power Stack was definitely the latter. I loved the idea that you could put it on before walking into a big meeting, stepping onto a stage, going on a first date or doing anything else that required a little extra dose of yourself. It wasn't about jewelry magically giving you confidence. It was about wearing something that reminded you the confidence was already there.

Your Stack Should Look Like You

That's still the part of ring stacking I love most. I can show you combinations all day long, but the best stacks evolve around the person wearing them. Some people love symmetry. Some want five different widths and metals piled together. Some start with one meaningful ring and slowly build around it for years.

If you're working on your own stack, use mine as inspiration rather than a formula. Play with proportion, repeat a shape or metal somewhere in the stack, and don't be afraid to put together pieces you wouldn't automatically think belong beside each other.
