Creating jewelry brings me such an array of personal joys. Designing new pieces offers this creative outlet just as crafting details by hand brings satisfaction as I watch the design come to life. Of course, selling them to enthusiastic clients (both old and new) always washes a tidal wave of pure bliss and utter pride… right over the top of me.
I began creating jewelry as a hobby while intending on pursuing a different type of design career (that story is for another blog – stay tuned!). As I began to streamline my aesthetic and gain that confidence in my path, I realized that my love of jewelry design was where my heart belonged.
I remember my first experience seeing someone wear CMD jewelry in public. While at Rainbow Grocery in line to checkout, I looked up from my cart of deliciousness to see a woman in front of me wearing my hammered oval hoops. Unbeknownst to her I stood feet away, my heart swelled with pride.
My greatest joy is seeing the love my clients have for CMD. When a friend texts me saying “A woman on the bus is wearing CMDs!” or a client tells me “This stack ring is my staple, everyday piece of jewelry. I simply don’t feel like myself without it.” I know I have done my job well. To create a product that both I as a designer, and you as the consumer, love greatly is an absolute amazing feeling.
Thank you all for supporting and loving CMD! I delight in creating my jewelry, but it is a completely different, rewarding experience to see you all enjoying. Do you have a special CMD piece you can’t live without? Leave your comments below and let me know what it is! I love to hear from you!

Colleen

Every time I land in San Francisco, something in my body exhales. There’s a light that feels familiar and the smell of eucalyptus and sea water is so grounding. The fog rolling in over Twin Peaks feels like an old friend. It’s cliché to say I left my heart here — but if I’m being honest, I kind of did. CMD was born in this city. In 2005, I was making jewelry [...]
It’s easy to say “woman-owned.” It’s more meaningful to pause and remember that every woman-owned business begins with a little girl who had the curiosity, creativity, stubbornness, and imagination to make her dreams come true. Probably a little bit of fearless chaos, too. International Women’s Day is about honoring the journey — the girlhood, the awkward [...]
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on some of my favorite custom projects — the kind where memory, metal and meaning all collide. From heirloom diamonds and recycled gold to entirely bespoke wedding bands, these are the stories that remind me why I feel so called to this work... If you’ve been holding onto diamonds, want to recycle metal for [...]
