It took years of trial and error, but I stuck with it and always believed that if I worked hard, I could make anything happen. Starting a business takes at 26 take a lot of courage and perseverance, but I knew that living my life as a creative is what I was put on this planet to do.
Now, every person is different, and that’s a wonderful thing. Some prefer dainty. However, I prefer stacks. This is why you can find so many stack ring options at CMD. We even have a ring bar at the showroom, where you can create your own stack and really express your own sense of style.
I often get asked what my favorite part of being a designer is. For me, it’s surely the creative design process – the part where I sit down, put pen to paper, and sketch and sketch and sketch. When I’m in the studio by myself, there’s something about the quiet that allows my brain to flick on… well, on a good day anyway.
Lots of my customers mix shapes and sizes when they’re at the ring bar, and it totally works for them. Your jewelry style and pairings should be an extension of your own style. If you’re a person who mixes patterns and accessories, don’t stop to think twice. This is part of the fun of creating your own stack!
My mom is one of the most amazing people in my life. Living 3000 miles apart isn’t always easy, but we manage by getting on the phone together nearly every day. My mom is a woman I have always admired – she raised me, my brother and sister on her own while working as an elementary school teacher.
As the year winds down and we look forward to 2017, we want to take a moment to thank each of you for supporting small business this year. We’re appreciative of each of one of you! Our very favorite part of the holiday season (next to spending it with friends and family) is the Christmas tree itself.
Seven is traditionally a lucky number, from its significance in ancient mythology to our modern-day references (7 days in a week, 7 colors in the rainbow, 7 little dwarfs for Snow White). Seven happens to be a favorite number around the CMD Studio, too.
Bryr founder, Isobel, has become a close friend and somewhat unofficial colleague of CMD over time. As a San Franciscan (via England) who left a corporate design job in search of her own passion, she’s a gal after our own heart. Plus, we’re obsessed with the high quality, unique designs and ethical mindset of Bryr clogs.
Daily life has always influenced the CMD aesthetic, and in many ways our interlocking bangles represent the endless flow that is the ocean. While they appear confined, they actually roll together on and on, a beautiful symbol that encompasses the awe-inspiring waves of the sea.
As I close my eyes and think of the word “home,” I have a vivid image of the beach. Growing up on the Jersey Shore meant sand was between my toes on a regular basis. Salty air, crashing waves, screeching seagulls…these memories instantly conjure feelings of happiness, peacefulness and family.
I am thrilled for the changes and growth 2013 will bring, and I’m so proud to reflect on my sweetest moments of the last year. We’ve built an amazing, solid team of talented ladies who are all excited to be part of CMD. I’m restructuring the foundation of the business and am so excited for the direction we are heading.
