I've never been very interested in the idea that certain jewelry is meant for certain people. A ring is a ring. A cuff is a cuff. If you put it on and it feels like you, that's really all I need to know.
CMD began in San Francisco, surrounded by a community that taught me a lot about individuality, self-expression and having the freedom to show up exactly as you are. More than twenty years later, those ideas are still very much woven into the way I design.
I've always been drawn to clean lines, substantial shapes, mixed metals and pieces with a little weight to them. Some people might call those designs masculine. Others might call them feminine. I've never felt much need to decide.
One of my favorite things about seeing CMD jewelry out in the world is watching completely different people make the same design their own. The way you stack it, what you wear it with and how it feels on your hand can change the personality of a piece entirely.
That's especially true of our rings. A wide square band can stand completely on its own or become part of a much more elaborate stack. Diamonds can be subtle. Gold can be rugged. Oxidized silver can sit next to something polished and bright. There aren't many rules around here, and I like it that way.
Today, this way of thinking extends far beyond the pieces in our collections. It's a huge part of our custom and Special Occasion work, too.
When someone comes to me for a wedding band, anniversary piece, commitment ring or something that marks a chapter entirely their own, I'm not interested in telling them what they're supposed to wear. I'm interested in figuring out what they actually want to wear.
Sometimes that's a simple gold band. Sometimes it's diamonds and mixed metals stacked five rings high. Sometimes two partners want completely different designs, and sometimes they surprise themselves by falling for nearly the same thing. That's part of the fun.
If you're not sure what you're looking for yet, that's okay. Trying things on is often the easiest way to figure it out. During Open Hours and appointments at my Asbury Park Shop & Studio, you can experiment with different widths, metals, shapes and stacks until something clicks.
You can also book an appointment with me in person or virtually if you're looking for something more personal, including Special Occasion, custom or Reconstruction jewelry.
CMD jewelry is made for whoever sees themselves in it. It really is that simple.
With love for wearing whatever the hell you want,
Colleen

I’ve never been one to wear just one ring, and over the years I’ve learned that sometimes one unexpected addition can completely change a stack. I’m sharing some of my favorite rings for adding shape, texture, sparkle and contrast, plus a little inspiration for your bracelet stack too. Whether you want to want to [...]
Robin's mom, Ronnie, was a performer, a singer and the kind of woman whose presence filled a room. Her glamorous diamond necklace was perfectly Ronnie, but it wasn't Robin. Together, we transformed all 25 diamonds into three completely new rings, carrying a piece of her mom forward in a form [...]
After twenty-one years of creating, growing and evolving, I’m finding myself at another crossroads. A long-overdue afternoon pruning my backyard reminded me that growth isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about cutting back, trusting your intuition and making room for whatever is growing [...]
