The Scorpio Ring: Embracing The Darkness

The Scorpio Ring:
Embracing the Darkness

When I think of Scorpio, I think of black holes, shadows, nighttime, the ocean, passion and transformation. The things we can't completely see or understand, but somehow feel drawn toward anyway.

Scorpio is traditionally associated with depth, mystery and transformation. Represented by the Scorpion and ruled by Mars in traditional astrology, this fixed water sign isn't particularly interested in staying on the surface. Scorpio asks us to look underneath, into the places where things change, end and eventually become something else.

Finding Beauty in the Darkness

We generally don't like endings. We don't particularly like uncertainty either. But everything changes, everything passes and some of the most transformative parts of our lives happen when we're forced to sit with what we can't control.

That's the side of Scorpio I wanted to explore through jewelry. Not darkness as something inherently negative, but darkness as mystery, depth and a necessary part of transformation. There can be beauty there, too.

That idea became The Scorpio Ring.

A Black Diamond for Scorpio

At the center of the design is a flush-set black diamond against a wide silver band. I love the contrast. The diamond is small but unmistakable, a dark point set directly into all that bright metal.

It became my way of representing the beauty we can find in darkness without making the symbolism too literal. There isn't a scorpion engraved into the band or a zodiac glyph announcing itself from across the room. Instead, the meaning lives in the materials, proportions and feeling of the piece.

That's how I prefer to approach symbolic jewelry. I want the story to be there for the person wearing it, while the jewelry itself still feels modern, sculptural and unmistakably CMD.

A Little Piece of Everyday Armor

The Scorpio Ring is a substantial 6mm-wide band, and that weight feels appropriate for the sign that inspired it. It's available in our signature rounded square and square shapes and can be worn alone or worked into a larger ring stack.

I've always thought of jewelry as a kind of everyday armor, and this piece embodies that idea especially well. Wear it as a reminder that transformation doesn't always happen in the light, that difficult chapters don't last forever and that there can be purpose in the parts of life we wouldn't necessarily have chosen for ourselves.

Zodiac Jewelry, the CMD Way

The Scorpio Ring is part of The Zodiac Series within The Celestial Collection. Like the rest of the series, it's my interpretation of a sign rather than a literal illustration of one.

You don't have to be a Scorpio to wear it, either. Maybe Scorpio belongs to someone you love, maybe the black diamond speaks to you, or maybe you're in a chapter of your own life that has you thinking about transformation, resilience and what can emerge from the dark.

And if you are a Scorpio, make sure we know when your birthday is. Members of our CMD Bucks Rewards Program can earn rewards for shopping with us, referring friends and celebrating a birthday. A little jewelry money on your birthday never hurts.

Here's to finding a little beauty in the dark,
Colleen

Pruning Season: Making Room For What Comes Next

After twenty-one years of creating, growing and evolving, I’m finding myself at another crossroads.
