If you know CMD, you know that rings are our bread and butter, and The Ring Bar is where accessorizing dreams come to life. It’s a place to play with proportion, shape, texture and materials until you land on a combination that feels unmistakably yours.
So, picture this: in walks a Saturnine duo, alike in some ways and wildly different in others, each looking for their perfect ring. Capricorn wants something substantial and grounding, a foundational piece of armor with staying power. Aquarius is after something less expected, with a little cosmic sparkle and plenty of room for individuality. Luckily, I made a ring for each of them.
Capricorn is the story of the acorn becoming the oak. There’s ambition here, but also patience, endurance and an understanding that the things worth building usually take time. When we designed The Capricorn Ring, I wanted it to have that same sense of substance.
A large, bezel-set tourmalinated quartz makes this one of the earthiest statement rings in the CMD collection. The stone is filled with naturally occurring black tourmaline inclusions, so every one has its own graphic, almost landscape-like pattern. Set against a wide band, it feels grounded and substantial without losing the beautiful weirdness that makes the stone so interesting.
For a sign ruled by Saturn, that felt right. Capricorn isn’t only about achievement. It’s about structure, commitment, mastery and becoming more fully yourself through everything you build along the way. The Capricorn Ring was designed to feel like something you could build a collection around.
Aquarius shares Saturn with Capricorn in traditional astrology, but expresses that Saturnian nature very differently. Where Capricorn builds the structure, Aquarius has a habit of asking what else that structure could become.
The Aquarius Ring takes that idea into a wide, rounded sterling silver band scattered with diamonds like stars across a night sky. You can choose anywhere from one to twelve diamonds, creating a constellation that feels entirely your own. Even better, additional diamonds can be added later, allowing the ring to change along with the person wearing it.
That’s what I love most about this design. Aquarius is associated with originality, experimentation and the ability to imagine beyond what already exists, so it didn’t make sense to create a ring with only one possible final form. The Aquarius Ring leaves room for evolution.
Putting these designs next to one another is a pretty perfect example of why I wanted to create the Zodiac Series in the first place. I wasn’t interested in simply putting zodiac symbols on twelve pieces of jewelry. The fun was figuring out how the personality, symbolism and planetary rulership of each sign could actually inform the design itself.
Capricorn and Aquarius made an especially interesting pair because traditional astrology assigns both signs to Saturn. They’re neighbors in the zodiac and share a planetary ruler, yet their expressions are remarkably different. Capricorn is cardinal earth, concerned with building something tangible and enduring. Aquarius is fixed air, oriented toward ideas, systems and possibilities that can extend beyond the individual.
You can see that contrast in the rings. Capricorn gets a substantial stone formed by the earth and a design with the visual weight to anchor a stack. Aquarius gets a field of diamonds that can be arranged and added to over time, making individuality and possibility part of the design itself.
Same Saturn. Completely different expression.
And that is exactly the kind of design puzzle that made this collection so much fun to create.
Of course, you don’t have to be a Capricorn to wear the Capricorn Ring or an Aquarius to fall for the Aquarius Ring. Astrology may have inspired these designs, but once a ring lands on your hand, the meaning you give it is entirely your own.
That’s also the whole idea behind The Ring Bar. You might start with your Sun sign, combine your Sun, Moon and Rising signs into a “big three” stack, or ignore your birth chart completely and choose the rings that feel most like you. Mix them with pieces you already own, use one as the foundation for a new stack, or come play until an unexpected combination clicks.
