Spread the Love with CMD:
Jewelry with a Little Heart

Love has always found its way into my work, sometimes in obvious ways and sometimes through the smallest details. The Spread the Love series began with a heart shape pulled from my own hand-drawn sketches, the same loose little heart you might recognize if you've ever received a handwritten note from me.

It's simple, a little imperfect and unmistakably handmade. Over time, that tiny symbol has grown into a family of pieces designed around one of the simplest ideas I know: love is meant to be shared.

A Design Inspired by Heart

The Spread the Love Ring turns that hand-drawn heart into a piece of wearable art. The delicate heart rests gently on its side atop a softly hammered 1mm band, giving the design just enough whimsy while keeping it understated enough to wear every day.

Originally introduced in early 2025, the ring joined a growing family of Spread the Love designs and gave us another way to wear that familiar little heart. It can represent romantic love, friendship, family, a person you want to keep close, or simply a reminder to give some of that love back to yourself.

Crafted by hand in our Upstate New York production studio, the ring was designed to feel meaningful without being precious about it. That's really the spirit behind the entire series: small jewelry that carries something much bigger.

The Spread the Love Family

The heart didn't stop with the ring. The Spread the Love Necklace lets that same tiny symbol rest close to your heart, while the Spread the Love Bracelet turns it into an easy piece for your everyday wrist stack.

Each one has its own personality, but they share the same idea. Give one to your partner, your mom, your best friend, your sister or someone who could use a little extra love. Wear one for yourself because you don't actually need another person involved to make a heart meaningful.

That's one of my favorite things about this design. A heart doesn't have to mean just one kind of love.

Part of Something Smaller... and Bigger

The Spread the Love pieces are also part of our Petite Symbols Collection, a growing family of jewelry designed around simplicity and significance. These are the little pieces that say a lot without needing to shout: symbols, initials, words and personal details that become meaningful because of what they represent to the person wearing them.

I've always loved jewelry's ability to do that. Something physically tiny can carry a whole relationship, memory, chapter of your life or reminder of who you are.

The Spread the Love heart might be one of the simplest symbols in the collection, but maybe that's exactly why it works. We all bring our own meaning to it.

Love in All Its Forms

When I first introduced the Spread the Love Ring in 2025, I wrote about wanting it to serve as a reminder of your heart's truest calling and the connections you hold most dear. I still feel that way.

Romantic love is wonderful, but it isn't the whole story. There's friendship, family, chosen family, community, the creatures we share our lives with, the people we've lost, the people we're becoming, and the relationship we have with ourselves. All of it counts.

So wear your heart. Give one away. Keep one for yourself. Stack it with something unexpected, let it get scratched, take it on adventures and allow it to become part of your own story.

Spread the love wherever you can.

xo,
Colleen

Wearable Art for Real People

I love seeing CMD jewelry out in the wild. When I first started making jewelry back in my tiny Hayes Valley apartment in San Francisco, I wasn't interested in creating pieces that only came out for special occasions. I wanted to make jewelry that became part of people's everyday lives. The kind of ring you absentmindedly twist while you're thinking or having [...]

One of the questions I get most often during Reconstruction consultations is: “Will my exact gold be melted down and turned directly into my new piece?” It’s a completely understandable question, especially because reconstruction work is so personal.
