Designed with Mom and Gram in Mind

Mother's Day is almost here, and I'm all about celebrating the irreplaceable mom-figures in our lives. The word "Mom" can mean a lot of things and elicit all kinds of memories and emotions. They could be a grandmother, an aunt, a sister, a cousin, a furmom, a dad who fills the role of mom, or a friend who doles out the best maternal advice. I honor each and every one of those selfless people this Mother’s Day.

Last year, I wrote a post about my mom. She's still one of the most amazing people in my life and I'm so grateful to be able to see her so often now that I live on the East Coast.

This Mother's Day, I'll also be remembering my Grandma, Agnes Higgins. She was the matriarch of our family who passed away November 20th, 2020 at 103 years. Since she's left, we've had to work hard to keep this big family together. Gram had 14 children, 36 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren.

Gram was always quick to volunteer and help others. While raising all her children, she also fundraised for the local hospital, was PTO president, a Boy Scout pack and Brownie troop leader, and took in several children who came upon rough times. Before she died, she said "I think the most important thing is to keep busy and do for others. It's so satisfying helping somebody else instead of thinking of your own troubles. I've just had a nice life, I have a lot to be thankful for."
