How to Build a Ring Stack That Feels Like You

How to Build a Ring Stack
That Feels Like You

I've always loved a good ring stack, but the best ones aren't necessarily the biggest or the most perfectly coordinated. They're the ones that feel like the person wearing them. Maybe yours is mostly silver with one little hit of gold. Maybe it's a mix of skinny rings and substantial bands, or clean geometry next to something with a diamond. There really isn't one formula for getting it right.

That's part of what makes stacking so much fun. You can start with two rings, live with them for a while, add another when something catches your eye and let the whole thing evolve over years. Some of my favorite stacks are the ones that were never really "finished" at all.

Start With the Rings You Already Love

If you're building a stack from scratch, you absolutely can. But you don't have to. One of my favorite ways to start is with a ring you already wear constantly and build outward from there. That might be a wedding band, a sentimental piece, one of your longtime CMD rings or simply the ring your hand feels naked without.

Pay attention to what you already gravitate toward. Do you like substantial rings or barely-there bands? Mostly silver or lots of warm gold? Perfect symmetry or something a little more unexpected? Your answers are usually a much better starting point than trying to recreate someone else's stack exactly.

Mix Widths, Metals and Shapes

A stack gets interesting when everything isn't doing the same thing. I love mixing thin and thick bands, different metals and little changes in shape and texture. One wider ring can give a group of skinny bands some weight, while a tiny diamond or sliver of gold can completely change the way the whole stack feels.

And obviously, I'm a longtime believer in mixing metals. Silver, yellow gold and even oxidized silver can live beautifully together. You can explore our Individual Rings for pieces that can be worn alone, added to something you already own or combined into a stack that's entirely yours.

Your Stack Doesn't Have to Stay the Same

One of the reasons I've loved stacking for so many years is that it gives you permission to keep playing. Move a ring to another finger. Add something unexpected. Take two rings away. Wear the same pieces completely differently tomorrow.

Your jewelry collection changes because you change. A stack you loved five years ago might look completely different now, and I think that's exactly how it should be. Jewelry is meant to be worn and played with, not arranged once and left untouched forever.

Want a Little Help Putting It Together?

If you have rings you love but aren't quite sure what they need, bring them with you. During an appointment, we can look at what you're already wearing, talk about the metals, proportions and shapes you're drawn to and figure out what could make the whole thing feel more like you.

You don't need to walk in knowing exactly what you're looking for. Honestly, playing around until we stumble onto the combination you didn't know you needed is half the fun.

Here’s to stacks that are never really finished,
Colleen

Pruning Season: Making Room For What Comes Next

After twenty-one years of creating, growing and evolving, I’m finding myself at another crossroads. A long-overdue afternoon pruning my backyard reminded me that growth isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about cutting back, trusting your intuition and making room for whatever is growing [...]
