Meet Savannah Rose Cheavers, aka Original Savannah. Savannah joined me in Asbury Park in 2022 as one of the models for my new collection, The Hand Project.This project included a photo series celebrating the different people, personalities and stories that make jewelry come alive. From the first time she walked into my design studio with her huge smile and incredible energy, I knew she was going to be fun to photograph.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Savannah came to the project with a love of fashion, styling and independent artists. At the time of our shoot, she told me about making mood boards, following new trends and dreaming about creating more opportunities for independent artists to share their work. She also loved coming to Asbury Park for inspiration, especially the combination of creativity, individuality and beach-town energy.
One of the things I loved most about talking with Savannah was her openness about figuring things out as she went. She told me, “I’m trying to make my way in the world and trying to make my dreams into reality but still not having a straight and narrow path to that.” I think so many of us can relate to building a life that way, following the pieces that feel right without necessarily knowing exactly where they'll lead.
But my favorite part of our conversation was hearing how Savannah described wearing CMD jewelry. She said, “I love that the pieces are so beautiful but they still have this edge to them. When I’m wearing a stack, I feel tough. I’m not just some dainty, fragile thing. I’m strong, but still beautiful.”
That has stayed with me because it's so close to what I want my jewelry to feel like on the body. Beautiful, yes, but never precious in a way that asks you to be careful with yourself. These are pieces meant to be stacked, mixed, lived in and worn as a kind of everyday armor.
The Hand Project gave me a chance to see familiar designs become completely different on every person who wore them. Savannah brought her own strength, style and energy to these pieces, and looking back at these photographs still makes me smile.
