When I started CMD over twenty years ago, I never could have imagined how far a conceptual idea of stacking circular and square rings would take me. What began at a tiny San Francisco workbench has grown into a full-fledged jewelry studio — now based in Upstate New York — where my small but mighty team of women handcrafts every single piece you see on our website. From design to delivery, we do it all by hand, with heart.
Recently, something a little magical happened online. A longtime CMD fan named Tayci had built her own Dream Stack during a virtual appointment with me a few years back — eight rings of silver, gold, rose gold, and oxidized silver — layered perfectly into a square, gorgeously sculptural little tower. We listed her stack online so others could shop her creation, and we’ve since sold a handful over the years.
Just recently, I posted a TikTok of Tayci’s Dream Stack after a client purchased one online. That post ended up getting thousands of views, hundreds of likes, and more than a few “I need this stack!” comments.
It’s been so fun watching the excitement unfold, because this is what CMD is all about: interactive design. Jewelry that invites you to play, mix, and express yourself. Every stack tells a story — and no two are ever quite the same.
Your Dream Stack is more than just a group of rings — it’s a signature set of pieces that live on your hand and capture your personality and style just the way you want. It’s part armor, part art, and all you. Whether you’re drawn to thin and dainty or bold and architectural, you can combine different shapes, textures, and metals to create something that feels balanced, beautiful, and uniquely yours.
Some people start small with a Minimalist Stack — two or three slim bands in mixed metals. Others go full-on Statement Stack, layering thick silver densa rings, oxidized accents, and pops of gold… maybe even a little diamond bling. Most of us live somewhere in between, adding and swapping rings as our moods (and outfits) shift. I certainly have clients who have collected so many rings over the years that they have their own personal Ring Bars at home. I also love our rings mixed in with other designer’s work.
If you’re new to CMD, we offer a few ways to start your stacking journey:
If you’re unsure of your size, I recommend first getting our adjustable ring sizer to get your general size. If you are ready to purchase and would really like to try on physical rings, we offer an at-home ring sizing kit, which serves as a rental. Once returned, your deposit can be applied toward your purchase. We offer the sizing kit in round, square or mixed shapes and you can try on three sizes with each kit.
Every CMD piece is handmade to order by our very skilled production team (Ary & Sam) in our Upstate New York studio. We solder, shape, file, polish, and finish each ring with care. The oxidized finishes evolve over time, softening into a warm antique patina. We think of it as jewelry that lives with you — getting better, more personal, and more “you” with every wear. Grab an oxidation kit if you’d like to occasionally oxidize your rings at home - it’s a fun little DIY project!
